Hi!
I’m working with a client on a fall European river cruise. Avalon and Viking both have itineraries that sail the rivers she’s interested in. One perk of using me as your travel agent is that I help you compare the different options. I thought it maybe helpful for you to see the type of information I share to help evaluate the pros and cons.
First, we compare the inclusions of each cruise line:
Both lines cater to mature travelers seeking cultural immersion, but Avalon leans more toward active/adventure-friendly options and modern room design, while Viking focuses on destination enrichment and a more traditional onboard experience. Avalon has larger cabins, smaller tour groups, and more options for dining.
Then, we compare the itineraries:

🔍 Key Differences
The Avalon cruise is one day longer with an overnight at the beginning and the end.
Bratislava: Avalon includes a stop in Bratislava, Slovakia, offering a glimpse into Slovakian culture and history. Instead, Viking includes an overnight in Vienna.
Kinderdijk: Viking's itinerary features Kinderdijk in the Netherlands, renowned for its iconic windmills and UNESCO World Heritage status.
The two river cruises visit different small German towns. Viking has more docks than Avalon. Viking has the most ships on the river.
Which itinerary would you choose?
